Reading the labels on products can help identify hazardous substances. Check for words such as "Caution", "Warning" or "Danger". These may indicate a product is a household hazardous waste. The Kandiyohi County Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility accepts household waste at no charge.
Paint, stain, varnish, fuels, pesticides, aerosols with product in them, poisons, acids, e.g.
Rechargeable Batteries
Explosives, Radioactive Wastes, Unknown chemicals
Automotive Batteries: Bring to a retailer that sells automotive batteries or t the Kandiyohi County Landfill for recycling.
Alkaline Household Batteries: They are non-hazardous and can be put in the trash.
Button Batteries: Elmquist Jewelers in Willmar will take button batteries for recycling.
There is a Product Exchange in the lobby of the HHW facility where good paint, aerosols and other products are available at no cost.
Fluorescent bulbs are accepted from households and businesses at the HHW facility. There is a $.50 per bulb charge for fluorescent bulbs.
The Kandiyohi County Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility is licensed to accept hazardous waste from VSQG's, businesses and nonprofit organizations that generate less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month.
