KANDIYOHI COUNTY
JAIL TRANSPORT DIVISION

The Transport Division consists of one Sergeant, one Rover and nine Correctional Officers.  One of the Correctional Officers main duties is working with the Medical Department but is also available for transport if needed.  Three Correctional Officers scheduled duties are Court Bailiffs and two Correctional Officers rotate between the court house and the transport division.  The Transport Officers responsibilities include transporting prisoners to court, medical and dental appointments, and court ordered placements.  We transport from the Willmar Regional Treatment Center and the Rice Hospital to court and other various places.  The Transport Division also transports juveniles from Prairie Lakes Youth Program and the Greater Minnesota Youth Program to court or to other placements.  We also assist the Road Deputies with picking up warrants if our assistance is requested.  Many hours of the Transport Division are centered on transporting incarcerated prisoners to and from State facilities.  Our division has had the opportunity to travel out of state to West Virginia and Illinois to pick up prisoners held in Federal Prisons.  There are many duties, such as release dates, working closely with Court Administration and the Community Corrections and other facilities both inside and outside the state that fall into our area.  Also we work close with the prison and the Short Term Offender program along, the list that goes on in this division.

The Transport Division maintains a fleet of six squad cars, two mini vans and one full-sized 13 passenger van that is divided into sections so we can transport both male and female inmates together. The vehicles that we have added have come from the deputies.

In 2007 the Transport Division transported 2341 prisoners, which consisted of 1957 male prisoners and 384 female prisoners and 105 juvenile prisoners.  This is an increase of 372 more transports than in 2006.  We have logged approximately 47,820 miles, an average of 3985 miles per month.  Transport mileage increased 1282 miles from the previous year.
