KANDIYOHI COUNTY SPEED TRAILER

In May of 2005 the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office purchased a Speed Monitor Trailer from MPH Industries of Owensboro, KY for $12,000.  The funds to purchase the trailer came from the Sheriff’s Office Driver Awareness program.  Individuals charged with basic traffic offenses such as speeding or failure to obey a stop sign may be given the opportunity to take a Driver Awareness Class which is taught by deputies at the Sheriff’s Office.  Individuals may opt to enroll in the educational program for $75 rather than appearing in court.  The funds generated through the Driver Awareness program are used for traffic enforcement projects, equipment purchases, and the Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver Program.  (see Project Lifesaver article)

The 25" Speed Monitor Trailer has an on-board computer, which controls the over speed/violator alert, minimum and maximum speed settings, radar range, and display update rate.  The directional Ka-band radar uses Automatic Same Direction™ (ASD™) technology to specifically target approaching vehicles.  The open design allows motorists to see through the trailer, giving added safety to pedestrians or road workers. The Trailer comes standard with a solar panel to extend the time between battery charges.  The trailer can be set up any where in Kandiyohi County to reduce speeds or remind motorists of posted speed zones.  Requests to the Sheriff’s Office for the Speed Monitor Trailer are welcome.  The trailer can be set up at any location where citizens feel traffic enforcement is needed.  To request a specific location please email the Sheriff’s Office at 3327@co.kandiyohi.mn.us

Respectfully Submitted,
